Jen Tomkinson:
Person Centred Therapy

"You cannot teach a person anything. You can only help them find it for themselves"- adapted from Galileo
I am continuing to provide therapy over video call and telephone over Zoom for the foreseeable future.

We're living in uncertain times, and things may feel out of control, uncertain and worrying. Therapy can help provide grounding and stability, and connect you with what you can control- how you respond to situations, what helps you feel supported, and how you can look after yourself and others.

My approach

Often we are more forgiving of others than we are of ourselves- we can be our own harshest critic. You may find anxiety, depression or difficult relationships are holding you back in your life. Perhaps you are ready to work towards changing that.

The relationship between counsellor and client is fundamental to therapy. I offer an accepting, understanding and genuine relationship, and a space that is just for you. I provide a rare experience of being truly listened to without judgement. In this supportive relationship you can begin to develop a better, kinder relationship to yourself and others. You can understand yourself more clearly and find direction.
I charge £60 for initial assessments and ongoing sessions. Payment is by Monzo or bank transfer before every session.

An initial assessment will allow you to discuss what has prompted you to seek counselling, and to explore working together. It is a mutual assessment and there is no obligation to continue.

If we agree to have ongoing therapy sessions we will meet on a weekly basis for 50 minutes at a regular time. I find the best way of working is to agree an open-ended contract which we will review on an ongoing basis.

Please contact me using the details below or the enquiry form to discuss an initial appointment. Please note, I respond to messages between 9-5 Monday to Friday and will get back to you within those times.

I store personal identifiable information securely in line with GDPR and use it only to contact you.

My training and experience

I completed my postgraduate diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy at York St John University, a course that is accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). The BACP is the main professional body for psychotherapy, counselling and talking therapies in the UK.

Following qualification I have completed various training courses to develop my knowledge further, on subjects including Trauma, Domestic Abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Hoarding, Supporting people who hear voices, and Bereavement.

I am an accredited, registered member of the BACP and adhere to their Ethical Framework. This ensures I work responsibly and professionally, and follow the code of conduct outlined in the framework. I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), and store information confidentially and securely.

I have nearly a decade of experience providing counselling in different settings. I have worked in a LGBTQ+ therapy team, mental health charities and young adult wellbeing services. I offer individual counselling in my private practice online and provide workshops and training around LGBTQ+ diversity and inclusion.
